Today we're shipping FrameQuery 1.0.
If you work with video, as an editor, a producer, a researcher, or anyone who manages footage, you know the problem. You remember a shot exists. You can describe it clearly. A man in a red jacket walking left to right in front of a canal, late afternoon light. But finding it means scrubbing through clip after clip until you land on it by memory or luck.
Describe what you're looking for in plain language and FrameQuery finds it across your entire library in seconds.
How it works
FrameQuery runs as a native desktop app on your machine. There are no uploads, no cloud processing waiting room, no subscription to a remote service that holds your files hostage. Your footage stays where it is.
When you add a project, FrameQuery indexes it locally: extracting frames, running vision analysis, and building a search index on your disk. Once that's done, search is instant. You type a query, and FrameQuery returns the exact clips and timestamps that match.
It understands what's in the frame, not just filenames or metadata you remembered to fill in. Describe an action, a colour, a setting, a mood. It'll find it.

FrameQuery 1.0 ships today for macOS 11 and above on Apple silicon.

Supported formats at launch include ProRes, H.264, H.265, MXF, MP4, MOV, and the full range of common acquisition formats. You can drop in a folder of mixed formats and index them together.
Windows is coming soon
Windows support is in active development and will ship in the coming weeks. If you're on Windows and want to be notified the moment it's ready, you can leave your email on the download page and we'll reach out as soon as it's live.
We're not splitting the product by platform. FrameQuery on Windows will have the same capabilities as macOS from day one.
ARRI RAW support is next
ARRI ARRIRAW (.ari) is one of the most requested formats. FrameQuery already understands MXF-wrapped ARRI files, but native ARRIRAW decoding (reading directly from .ari files without transcoding) will ship in the next few weeks.
If you shoot on an ALEXA 35, LF, or Mini LF, this is for you. We're working through the ARRI SDK and will post when it's ready.
Pricing
FrameQuery is priced by the amount of footage you index each month, not a flat per-seat fee. Plans start at $19/month for independent editors with smaller libraries, up to $228/month for larger operations. There's also a free tier that lets you search footage you've already indexed, so you can evaluate the search quality before committing.
